Education for Life: raising awareness

Providing youth with tools for using the social media to encourage participation in informal education programs among their peers.

Raising awareness of the importance of informal education among youth, parents, and decision-makers is a key component of the Education for Life initiative. This is essential, as teens often don’t recognize the opportunities this field offers and do not feel capable of affecting them.

The media influencers program (‘NAMER’) is based on the belief that the most effective way to make opportunities accessible to youth is through their peers. Accordingly, the program creates a local “task force” of teens who play an active role in promoting informal education in their city.

Participants in the program receive training that combines introduction to the world of informal education and development of identity and leadership, with acquisition of tools for content creation and influence in social media. In this way, they gain knowledge and insights that they can share with other youngsters in their own language.

The program is implemented in partnership with the Council of Children and Youth Organizations and in cooperation with municipal youth departments and community partners. NAMER groups operate both within local authorities and through youth organizations, which helps to increase the program’s impact at both the local and national levels.
